The month of August kicked off at Pittsburgh International Race Complex for the fourth round of the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series. The PCR colors defended their home turf walking away with a podium result and fast pace throughout the weekend. Iame Jr. pilot, Gage Rodgers had his best performance on Sunday’s main event. Starting 4th, the rookie Jr. driver slowly inched his way to the lead pack and was in striking distance with 8 laps to go. The Coldwater, Michigan driver made his move to secure 2nd giving Checkered Motorsports a podium result. Annie Rhule performing double duty had her best result in Yamaha. While running as high as third, Rhule would finish the weekend with a sixth-place finish.
A strong showing was made in Mini Swift with Charlie Knoll leading the way after qualifying third. Sofia D’Arrigo would bounce back from Saturday’s racing incident maneuvering her way to a solid 6th place finish. However, Knoll’s luck would not go his way after a phenomenal 3rd place qualifying starting spot, contact in the opening laps of the main event shuffled him back to finish 11th.
The newest addition to the Checkered Motorsports squad is Pennsylvania pilot Ryan Raffa. Competing in the competitive Pro Iame Senior class, Raffa demonstrated his speed and consistency throughout the weekend. Saturday’s action looked promising, running in the top 5 throughout the weekend. While running in 2nd in the 16 lap main event, Raffa would make his move for the lead on the halfway mark. Unfortunately, contact with the leader sent Raffa off track to nurse the kart back to a 7th place finish. Teammate, Rudy Agras had his best performance yet qualifying in 6th on Sunday, but would retire early in the 16 lap main event.
After leading off a successful weekend at the WKA Manufacturers Cup Series, the PCR colors were represented at both the ROK Cup Midwest series and the GearUp F-Series. At the GearUp F-Series race, Annie Rhule had a strong showing with the new 2016 model Cadet chassis. The Woltjer prepped Mini ROK and the PCR cadet chassis were the kart to be throughout the weekend. Annie Rhule concluded the weekend a victory in the final race along with a third place overall finish.
During the first ROK Cup USA Midwest series, Checkered Motorsports drivers represented the PCR colors with power. With representation from Micro ROK through the Shifter classes, it was clear that the team had its eye on victory. Competing in the Shifter category, Andrew Bujdoso and Austin Jordan rounded out the top 5. Bujdoso dominated early on in Round 1 of the series at a massive 11-second margin of victory. The team continued its pursuit of the Midwest Championship with Round 2 in New Castle. With a resilient representation in the Senior ROK, Master ROK and Shifter classes, the weekend concluded with a podium finish for Chris Giumarra in the Master ROK class. A great battle for first in Bujdoso that resulted in a second-place finish for Round 2. However, with a dominating performance throughout this series and 1106 total points, Andrew Bujdoso won a ticket to compete in the ROK Cup International Final at the South Garda Karting circuit in Italy this October.
