Checkered Motorsports has been seen in the sunshine state for a majority of the winter months. Focusing their efforts in the Florida Winter Tour (FWT) and the WKA Winter Cup, the final round of both series was a success. The team tallied up a Vice-Championship result at FWT, a podium finish, and five top tens at WKA.
Adam Pettit, the New Jersey Native, show consistency and fast pace at West Palm Beach International Raceway Park which hosted the final round of the FWT. In Masters Rok, Pettit placed his BBS powered PCR Mxk8 chassis in the
outside pole position. After a round of heats and a pre-final, Pettit found himself start in the fourth spot for the 25 lap main event. In the opening laps of the race, Pettit maneuvered his way in second trailing the leader by 2 seconds. Over the course of the 25 lap main event, Pettit made up 1.5 seconds, but was one lap short from victory to finish second, just .576 tenths from the leader. His result earned him a Vice-Championship in Masters RoK.
The WKA Winter Series returned to action with its final round held at GoPro Motorplex. In Iame Jr. Gage Rodgers would earn a top three result in just his second Junior start. After finishing 7th in Saturday’s main event, the young pilot quickly showcased his talent within an experienced 20 kart field to claim a well earned third place finish on
Sunday. Teammate,Tahlon Yockel, earned his first WKA top ten with a solid ninth place finish after starting 16th.
Annie Rhule performed double duty racing in Yamaha Sportsman and Pro Swift Sportsman. Rhule qualified fourth in Yamaha Sportsman on Sunday; however, bad luck struck in the heat causing a DNF. Bouncing back from from her
DNF, Rhule put a stellar performance in the Pro Swift Sportsman to finish eighth and yet another top ten with a ninth in Yamaha Sportsman.
In the Mini Swift class, Charlie Knoll led Checkered Motorsports to yet another top ten finish. Knoll making his first appearance at GoPro Motorplex, quickly familiarized himself with the technical circuit. His consistency earned him an eighth on Saturdays Final.
Veteran, Andrew Bujdoso, had speed to run up front but mechanical issues hindered his opportunity for a victory in Iame Sr. Saturday the 18 year old took the lead in the opening laps of the course until an airbox falling off forced the pilot to pull in the pits. Sunday’s action looked promising, but while running in sixth Bujdoso touched a curb which sent his chain off, forcing yet another DNF.
